The establishment of RVP Road Safety Camp Club: RVP- RSC

Accident is an unexpected incident that can occur at any time, especially from traffic accidents which results in enormous loss each year. The company is aware of losses and damages caused by traffic accident to the people and the nation. Factors that caused the accident are human, vehicle, road traffic conditions, and the weather. But the most important factor is human, who are negligent, careless, lack of understanding and awareness in safety. Statistical data shows that traffic accidents occurred to young people age 15-20 years accounts for approximately 60% and age between 20-28 years accounts for another 25%. In the age group between 15-20 years mostly are still students. The main factors involving human and a high number of young people as shown in statistical data, indicate the needs for actions to tackle and prevent traffic accidents. To share responsibility for society and the nation in tackling this problem, RVP has developed action plans for a traffic accident reduction campaign to instill awareness in safety among the youth in educational institutions in various provinces across the country through the establishment of the project named “RVP Road Safety Camp: RSC”. The project is intended to encourage and cultivate awareness in safety among young road users who are the future’s adults. This is a sustainable and continuous measure to prevent and reduce traffic accidents for today and for the future.

The purposes of the project

  • 1. To instill safety awareness among the youth.
  • 2. To support the accident protection and prevention for the youth.
  • 3. To encourage the youth to take part in preventing and reducing accidents
  • 4. To serve as a Long-term measure to reduce losses from accidents
  • 5. To complement and support the government’s accident prevention measures
  • 6. To promote a strong community that can take care of their own safety

This project has been in operation since 2008. The activity is divided into two parts including the Theory part which provides safety training to the youth and the Practice part that provides learning activities as how to safely drive vehicles and aware of road safety. This project has been continuously implemented until the present, although the project methods have been shifted to become more suitable but the concept of the plan still remain the same, that is to encourage and support the youth to utilize their creativity and capability by allowing them to use their own ideas and take actions under the framework “Kids-think, Kids- do”. The project is intended to instill the love of safety among young people which will protect them from accidents and minimize losses. The framework to create road safety awareness under the Road Safety Camp (RSC) project one essential part is that the groups of youth have collectively established road safety clubs to ensure the continuity of safety activities in their schools where they learn, to protect them from hazards before they enter the roads. This will make the roads safer and the safer roads are roads with zero accidents.

In 2010, the company has launched “RVP-RSC Power for Decade of Action for Road Safety" with aims to allow students and RSC club members under the support from RVP across the country to present their works and contributions in road safety activities. Also to provide a stage for exchanging knowledge and learning experience among themselves to determine the road map and safety practices. It serves as a stage to express their thoughts and encourage their confidence in contributing to social benefit for the society as a whole. The project was jointly launched by MR. ANDREW PEARCE CEO of Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP), the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and road safety alliances participated in the opening ceremony at Pupar-ngam resort, Nakornnayok Province.

In 2012, RVP has organized the second activities of road safety camp at schools (RSC Club) to promote the “RVP-RSC Power for Decade of Action for Road Safety II” by Mr. Suwat Tantipipat; Assistant Minister of Education, Dr.Surachai Srisarakham, the Governor of Nakornnayok province and Associate networks of accident reduction campaigns participated in the opening ceremony at Chonlapreuk Resort.
